A world that works for everyone
My baby daughter (that is not her in the picture) is 11 months old today and I suddenly became present to something I had not realized or given much attention prior to about 6 months ago; and that was after having raised two other daughters who are now adults.
I became present to the fact that there are no “bad” babies. You know, those who cry incessantly or act out all the time and we say they do so by nature, ungodly design or because they have some deficient gene or DNA makeup. No, there is always, without exception, very good reason they cry or “act out.” It’s because without fail they desire some meaningful attention, affection, or fundamental need like feeding their thirst or hunger. I suppose what I am saying is quite obvious. However, when I observe the way I see children treated at times including the way I react to my baby daughter at times, one would argue with my premise.
Let us respond and attend to the needs, desires, wants, understandings and expressions of our babies, and for that matter older children, young adults and older adults in the same respectful manner we adults expect other adults to respond to us.

Having raised two beautiful adult girls, one 39 and 35, it amazes me how much I did not know about raising children. I am learning so much at the Baby College which is a program of the Harlem Children's Zone.
I invite all parents, to review the guidelines below published by The Children's Zone.
