CREATING A WORLD COMMUNITY

A world that works for everyone

I have been following a conversation on Twitter about the piracy incident on the high seas of East Africa that ended today in triumph, at least according to the American Press. The statements I read were one’s that included the phrase “world community.”

1. “Wouldn't it help the world community to invest in building a democracy in Somalia?”
2. “Yes the pirates can be stopped if the world community stand together and say no to them.”
3. “I wonder if Somalia will ever be a part of the world community or a mess forever;”
4. “I hope the world community will come together to put an end to the piracy.”

Wikipedia definition of world community: “The term is used primarily in political and humanitarian contexts to describe an international aggregate of nation states of widely varying types. In most connotations, the term is used to convey meanings attached to consensus or inclusion of all people in all lands and their governments.

The operative words in the definition, in my judgment, are consensus and inclusion.

To what extend did a world community exist for the pirates?
